Eating Patterns
At the Kids Niche, we take the upmost care to provide meals, snacks, and the provision of dining care to the highest of hygiene and nutritional standards.
We work in partnership with parents and the unique policy of the EYFS where individual dietary needs are catered to the highest standards. Our menus are thought out carefully so that the daily nutritional requirements of every child are met. So that staff are aware of the dietary requirements of each child, we have a colour coded chart in our kitchens. This is also present for any covering staff to use as we know every child matters and is unique. This is also to fulfil the EU legislation which requires that all businesses selling and/or serving food must offer information to customers about the 14 common allergies required by the FSA. We do have set times for meals and daily snacks which are provided in the mornings and afternoons. However, for children under the age of 18 months, we do provide meals that suit their routine patterns.

Our Routine
- Breakfast – served between 7.30am - 8.30am
- Morning snack – served at 9:30am
- Lunch – served at midday.
- Afternoon snack – served at 2.00pm
- After School meal served between 4.15pm – 4.45pm
Our younger babies have a separate menu to suit every child’s eating pattern. We facilitate for beginners as the weaning starts with freshly prepared vegetable and fruit purees with the gradual introduction to different healthy food options. Children after the age of 1 are encouraged to eat the same food as the rest of the nursery.
Wherever possible, individual needs such as religion, special dietary requirements, or food allergies will be catered for. We also work in partnership with parents who wish us to wean their children at different stages of development. Here, we ask parents to provide the specific foods that they wish to introduce and in the texture they require.
Children attending the afterschool club will be provided healthy nutritional options tailoring to their developmental and personal needs. Here, both the setting and the children will be working towards achieving our Healthy Eating Award.

Transitioning throughout stages
Transitioning to school or other setting is a very crucial developmental process in the life of every child. Regardless of the reasons for the change, here at the Kids Niche, we feel it is our professional and moral duty to make sure the transition is smooth and undisruptive as possible to the child and their family.
Each child needs to be aware that a change is taking place and they need to be confident to settle into the new setting, making new friends, and be comfortable in their new environment.

Transitioning to preschool
from toddler room
Here at the Kids Niche, our relevant key worker works in partnership with parent and child. As well as providing transitional documents for the new setting, The Kids Niche also provides a learning journal and informal sessions where the new setting is discussed.
We also carry out role plays and visits to the new schools where possible so that the Key Person is present with the child for the transition. We have found that the new teachers have really benefited from the attendance of the Key Person as they are able to ask and learn about the child firsthand.

Parents as partners
Here at the Kids Niche, the role of primary caregivers is vital if we wish to provide the highest level of care. It is through them that we learn and tailor our setting so that the needs of each child are met.
By allocating a key person to a child, parents able to work with a particular member of staff to ensure that they are happy with the development curriculum provided through the EYFS.
The Key Person not only provides parent with observations but are also able to record milestones achieved by their child.
The relationship between the 'Key Person', child, and parent will begin on day one of your child attending the setting. In order to build an attachment between your child and the Key Person, it is important your child recognises your acceptance of the Key Person which will lead your child into having that key security and confidence in their relationship with their Key Person. Those who act as a Key Person recognise the parent as the child's first educator; it is the parent who will know their child best and we will work in partnership with the parent to ensure we have all current information needed to settle and build upon your child's learning and development.
Parents are then able to carry out activities that their child enjoys or need enhancing with at home.
The nursery will also have parent mornings allowing ways strong and happy relationships to be built between the parents and the nursery as well as the local community.
